Day 2: The 365 Day Activity Challenge

2nd January 2017

The 2nd day of my 365 Day Activity Activity Challenge today and it’s Messy Monday!

Considering we’ve just gone into a new year, we decided to do some painting! Painting fireworks! We made it extra creative and used dish brushes.

The shape of the brush makes perfect fireworks and we added glitter to make it a bit more messy and pretty!

I bought the brushes for 50p each from ASDA and the paint from our craft box at home which has been bought for 99p each.

Jack loved making fireworks! Mikey wasn’t so interested so I’ll try at another time when he’s more interested in sitting still for more than 30 seconds.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Day 1: The 365 Day Activity Challenge

January 1st 2017

Day 1 of my 365 day activity challenge, it’s story time Sunday!

To kick start my 365 day activity challenge we’ve used our imagination and made up a story about a bunny. It’s a story my Nanny told my Mum and my Mum told to me and now I’m telling my babies.

Jack loves Christmas so much he was happy to hear this Christmas story about a little bunny called Jack, who loves to play but one day rips his trousers and gets very upset because he thinks Santa won’t bring him any presents, but his little bunny friends help him stitch his trousers and they all get lots of presents from Santa at the end of the story.

Jack loves stories using our imagination where he doesn’t necessarily have to look at pictures and turn the pages, I like to ask him what Jack rabbit looks like and what colour his clothes were, so Jack can make up the details of his story and use his imagination.

The 365 Day Activity Challenge

The 365 Day Activity Challenge

I always plan to do great daily activities with my kids and I’ll stick to it for a while, but we end up getting caught up doing other things, so I’ve set my self a 2017 challenge as a new years resolution and I’ve put it on my blog so I can inspire other people and also not give up because lots of people are reading, ha! A challenge to do daily activities with my kids and post it on my blog!

So I’ve dedicated a day of the week to a theme of activities, using Pinterest for a lot of inspiration, but STEAM Ahead for kids also had lots of great activities and also the 5 Minute Fun website, so I’ll be using a combination of the three to decide what activities I’m going to do and I’ll post daily updates with the hashtag #ymbactivitychallenge

I’m going to do my best to stick to daily activities, but if they get really inspired some days we’ll do two or three and they can allow for days when we aren’t up to it, let’s face it kids get poorly so there are going to be days off but I’ll do my best to post daily activities for people to follow and I’d love my readers to join in and take part in doing one activity (or more) a day for the whole of 2017!

Post your own ideas and I’ll schedule them in to do them and I’ll repost your activity pictures!

So this is the daily plan to mix it up a bit:

Monday – Messy Monday

(Doing messy activities, so get your aprons and baby wipes handy)

Tuesday – Toy Tuesday

(Imaginative play with your kids own toys)

Wednesday – Wacky Wednesday

(Dressing up and being silly)

Thursday – Thoughtful Thursday

(Using our imagination to make our own adventures)

Friday – Food Friday

(Baking and cooking)

Saturday – Sensory Saturday

(Sensory games, toys and activities)

Sunday – Storytime Sunday

(Time to relax and listen to some stories)

I’ll be starting it on the 1st of January and would love to see people join in and share your pictures, make sure you use the hashtag  #ymbactivitychallenge and tag @yummymummysblog so I see your posts!

Let’s do the 365 Day Activity Challenge! Who’s in?

New Years Resolutions

I have never been big on new years resolutions (mostly because everyone else I rarely stick to them) but since having kids there’s always more I want to be doing with and for them, so for 2017 I’m going to base my new years resolutions on them.

Considering this years I had another baby and got married it’s been a pretty hectic year, so my plan for 2017 is to chill out! No major organised events, I might arrange Nicole’s Naming Ceremony for later in the year but I will just see how that goes, it can always wait until 2018.

So I’d like to do more activities with the kids, drawing, painting, creating. We do a lot but I’d like to arrange at least a couple of times of the week when we sit down to do exactly that. I’d like to make a list of farms, zoos and educational yet fun places we can go.

We tend to sit down for teatime but not really for any other meal of the day, they tend to walk around with a piece of toast of a morning, but I’d like for them to sit down and eat more just basically to get them eating more, it’s not that they are even bad eaters, but I’d just like to have more meals sat at the table with actual face to face contact.

Limiting devices, I don’t allow them to spend long on the tablet/ipad/laptop but occasionally they will go on it, so I’d like to limit what they are using to a certain hour and app, just for the reason I don’t want them to get into bad habits of being on devices all the time, yet I know it is good for them to know how to use them.

I usually end up buying a diary in about April, when I decide to get my life in order, but I suppose January is a good place to start and I’d like to be one of those organised birthday rememberer’s but we will see how well that goes.

So in summary I guess my new years resolution is to have a fairly normal, yet fairly organised year…if that’s even possible. Basically no more babies or weddings!

But I have three kids way under school age, so organisation in my house means living in a fairly normal household and considering mine is as mad as a box of frogs, I’ll accept I have good intentions but not punish my self if it all goes A over T.

Happy New Year Everyone!
